Ethics
If you are old enough to have worked in and lived through the major new tech industries (computers, the Internet, mobile communications, recycling, to name a few) over the last thirty to forty years, you are probably aware that nearly every new technology goes through similar major steps as it evolves immediately after its introduction.
It is not uncommon to see some pretty primitive initial products. It is also common over time to see rapid improvements and fast turnover in new ideas and products. It is common to see consumer growth of those technologies that are worthy. And, it’s also not uncommon to see some pretty shoddy work and even some ‘less-than-honest’ business practices by a few that can interfere with the success of others and the industries as a whole. We look at this latter issue as a matter of “Ethics”. That is the focus of this new area on our website.
Such is true once again with the renewable energy industry. True, it’s been around in its current form for about thirty years, but only lately has it caught on in a big way. We have federal and state funding and credits, a much improved set of products and development curve, and we also have a lack of oversight, compliance, and consumer protection in many parts of the country. We know that renewables work and the future is far more secure for it than it was thirty years ago; in part due to the proof we see in the results in Europe, Asia especially.
This is déjà vu for those of us who have ridden some of the aforementioned industries to success in the past. We also know what to look for, how to solve issues, and how to improve the timeline on adoption and implementation, simply because we have been through it before. We know how a few bad apples can set an entire industry on its heels and cast doubt on itself within the consumer base. We know how to market new technologies and do it in the most positive of ways, ethically and honestly.
In the future, we will be considering what we need to do ‘to do better’, and do it early-on. If you would like to contribute to this area with an article or three, please submit them to us at: info@liberalprogressives.org.
Hope to hear from you!
