Minnesota Feed-In Tariff Petition
For those of you who live in Minnesota, have you ever wondered why you don’t see much solar energy or wind energy on properties?
The reason is simple. We are WAY Behind.
We are behind because, in big part, because we are not staying abreast of, and utilizing all the quality programs that the rest of the globe has developed or discovered. There is one big remaining barrier to a full-throttle expansion of renewable energy. That barrier is simply the initial, up-front costs of putting a system in place. Th e Feed-In Tariff takes care of that problem!
Haven’t heard of it before? That’s okay. It’s your time!
From Wikipedia, here’s their very good description:
“A feed-in tariff (FiT, feed-in law, advanced renewable tariff[1] or renewable energy payments[2]) is a policy mechanism designed to encourage the adoption of renewable energy sources and to help accelerate the move toward grid parity.
It typically includes three key provisions: 1) guaranteed grid access, 2) long-term contracts for the electricity produced, and 3) purchase prices that are methodologically based on the cost of renewable energy generation [3] and tend towards grid parity. Under a feed-in tariff, an obligation is imposed on regional or national electric grid utilities to buy renewable electricity (electricity generated from renewable sources, such as solar power, wind power, wave and tidal power, biomass, hydropower and geothermal power), from all eligible participants.[4].
The cost-based prices therefore enable a diversity of projects (wind, solar, etc.) to be developed, and for investors to obtain a reasonable return on renewable energy investments. This principle was first explained in Germany’s 2000 RES Act” (to read the entire article, go HERE)
A Feed-In Tariff adoption is the most proven element to renewable energy success in the world. Germany led the way over a decade ago, and since then many countries, states, provinces, and cities have followed their lead. The list includes: France, Great Britain, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey, China, Japan, the province of Ontario, the states of Vermont, California, Washington, and the city of Gainesville, Florida. Many more have Feed-In Tariff legislation on their agendas for this year.
Germany alone has created more than 280,000 new jobs, good jobs, renewable energy jobs since they introduced their Feed-In Tariff.
Minnesota has a great opportunity to improve it’s renewable energy performance by using a Feed-In Tariff.
Minnesota had a Feed-In Tariff Bill drafted this year. It is an excellent Bill, encompassing and benefiting all the citizens in the state, not just a few special interests and large organizations. The Bill as introduced as House File 3618 and Senate Bill 3320. Unfortunately, it did not make it out of committee, due to a few reasons beyond our control. However, we are working on the Session already, and hope you will help us make it happen.
(A link to a copy of the Bill can be found at the end of this page.)
We are asking for your help. We are asking you to be a signatory to our petition urging our legislature to pass our Minnesota Feed-In Tariff Act. If you would please read the Info on the Wikipedia site, and the actual Minnesota House File; and, if in agreement, please show your support by signing our Petition.
And Please, TELL THE WORLD!!!
If you have a group that would like to sponsor a presentation on Feed-In Tariffs and Current State of Renewables in Minnesota, feel free to contact me for arrangements.
Thank you,
